Our History

In March of 2003, God gave Katie Harding a vision to unite women and women's groups in Northern Virginia through NorthStar Church Network, her local Baptist association. This uniting would occur through a new umbrella organization called NorthStar Women's Network. Katie spoke with those at the association office and also with the Woman's Missionary Union of Virginia, since she worked for the WMUV as one of their Equippers. She was delighted to find support from both groups and their willingness to partner for something new and fresh that would meet the needs of all women in the Northern Virginia area!

It wasn’t long before Katie realized that while God was preparing the path to send her full-time into the mission field of Northern Virginia by fall of 2003, He was also calling other women to join her on this journey.

To get this website up and running, He constructed an initial web development team. First on board were Paula, our developer, and Anne, our graphic artist, both desiring to share their gifts for ministry. Next Minnie volunteered to be one of our Bible studies writers. Then Katie met Laura Cotter who oversees the Language Ministries for the NorthStar Church Network. Laura has been a blessing as the editor for our Spanish pages. Through Laura, Claudia, Aracelis, and Flory also joined our development team. Claudia and Flory spent many hours translating our first files from Spanish to English and English to Spanish while Aracelis joined Minnie in writing our Bible studies. Then when we needed extra support to launch our website, Amy stepped up as another translator, and Rebecca volunteered as our third Bible Study writer—our second to write our studies in Spanish. And certainly, last but not least, we have also been blessed by the new friendships we have made along the way, the encouragement we have received from so many women, and the stories and information we have been asked to share.

Although the journey began on a somewhat narrow path, by the beginning of 2004, we discovered that the path was much broader than ever imagined. Through NorthStar Women's Network's website, not only would women unite throughout Northern Virginia, but soon, women would be connecting and sharing Christ's love with other women around the world.

As NorthStar Women's Network continues to grow and develop, we thank God for His vision, His goodness, and His leadership in bringing us this far. We look forward to continuing this journey with Him as our guide. We also thank Him for our twelve prayer warriors who continually prayed for our development team as they blazed new trails during the early days of this ministry.
