Bible Study - "Evangelism in Our Homes"
What is Evangelism? Evangelism can be defined as sharing the Good News. Jesus told us in Acts 1:8 that we are to tell people about Him "in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
We are to tell others about Him in our homes, our neighborhoods, our countries, and throughout our world. As women, one of our most important mission fields is the one within our own homes. It also can be one of the most difficult ones.
Everyday we need to live a life that reflects the love of Christ to our loved ones. Does your life reflect the love of Jesus? The best ones to ask are those within your own family.
When you are tested by difficulties, what do they see? We are often concerned about our health, our finances, our security, and even the behavior and manners of our children. In our "Jerusalem," we need to be sure that what we feel in our hearts is what we declare with our lips. God tells us to be concerned first and foremost about our salvation. Our salvation is to be the most important part of our life.
Through our salvation, we have been declared righteous by Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 1:30). We have been freed from our sins (Romans 3:24-26), we belong to God's family (Ephesians 2:12-13), we will have eternal life (John 10:28), and nothing will ever separate us from the love of Christ (Romans 8:31-39).
Our human nature is to be sinful. In this nature we are selfish, jealous, hostile, quarreling, envious, and directed by our own thoughts and desires (Galatians 5:19-21). Without Christ, we are sons and daughters of anger (Ephesians 2:3), we are slaves to sin (John 8:34), we can't understand God's truth (1 Corinthians 2:14), and our sins will bring us death (Romans 5:12).
On a day to day basis, we have to ask ourselves, "Are we claiming our salvation or are we allowing our human nature to direct us?" Paul tells us that "…when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." (Galatians 5:22)
In Luke 10:27, Jesus tells us to love God with all our heart, all our soul, and all our strength. When we commit ourselves wholeheartedly to this command, we "nail the passions and desires of our sinful nature to the cross of Jesus Christ and crucify them there." (Galatians 5:24) When we make God the center of our lives, the Holy Spirit will work through us, and Jesus' love will be reflected through everything that we do-especially in Jerusalem!
